We need to get back to praising God!
We should all Praise God every day. We thank Him for what He gives and does for us, but do we Praise Him? What is praise?
Praise is when we are genuinely joyful for something that has been done, either for us or by someone else. When our children do something that genuinely makes us happy, even if it is not for us, we praise them because we think they deserve it. When you do a good job at work and your supervisor praises you, do you think you deserve that? Why should you deserve it, you get paid to do your best.
You don’t pay God to forgive you; He does because He is so good. Everything He does is good. God deserves Praise from us every day, but how many of us do Praise Him every day? Do we even recognize all the things He does for us every day? Who can remember the first sin they ever committed? Can you remember the first “little white lie” you ever told?
God can, that is who. He has written everything down, and we will all have to face it at judgement. He is willing to forgive all of those sins. Doesn’t that deserve your praise? How would you like to face all the sins you committed in the last 24 hours?
Remember, God does not have to forgive anything we do. He forgives us simply because He loves us, not because He has to. Of course we thank Him but doesn’t that deserve our praise?
When He steps back, lets us have our own way, and things go bad, we blame Him for our problems. When things go well though, we think we are so good that He rewards us. We don’t praise Him because we think we deserve good things.
What makes you think you are good? You compare yourself to someone else who may be a criminal. Did you ever realize you are judging them by comparing them to yourself? The Lord tells us not to judge, but He will even forgive you for judging them. That deserves praise doesn’t it? He doesn’t have to forgive you, but He will.
Everything God does for us is good. We don’t always agree with that, because we look at things from our own selfish self-righteous view of ourselves. God looks at us exactly as we are, and still only wants the best for us.
Of course we thank God for all the good He does for us when we take the time to recognize He did that good. He deserves much more than our thanks, He deserves our praise. We thank Him for what we gain, but we should praise Him because He doesn’t have anything to gain by doing well by us, but still does.
We should thank the Lord every day for the good He does for us, AND we should praise Him because we love Him and He is not capable of doing bad.
